General Overview:
Academic and Career Planning, or ACP, is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.
ACP is a state mandate under Chapter PI-26 which states that all school boards "shall provide access to an education for employment program approved by the state superintendent. Under s. 115.28 (59), Stats., the state superintendent shall ensure that every school board is providing academic and career planning services to pupils enrolled in grades 6 to 12 in the school district beginning in the 2017-18 school year."
The School District of Neillsville aligns ACP goals to their district and school goals. The group responsible for creating and delivering the ACP activities and curriculum is the ACP committee. The ACP committee consists of the following staff members: HS Principal, MS Principal, 7-12 School Counselor, MS SEL Teacher, HS Teachers, and MS Careers Class Teacher. The CTE Coordinator, Elementary Principal, School Psychologist, and Elementary School Counselor serve the committee in an “advisory” capacity. Other MS/HS staff members are welcome to join at any time. The ACP committee meets once a month to plan and organize ACP events, evaluate progress, address needs and concerns, and delegate roles for implementation. They also participate regularly in regional ACP professional development opportunities offered by CESA 10 and CVTC.
Additionally, the ACP committee supports staff in delivering ACP services by frequent communication and checkpoints. Staff are annually offered professional development as needed. Dual Credit instructors receive ongoing professional development at CVTC for the courses they teach.
